About Jeff Hutton
Jeff Hutton is an independent consulting Meteorologist based out of Kingman, KS. Mr. Hutton received a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in 1983 and began his professional career in weather during that same year working for a private firm in Oklahoma City. He joined the National Weather Service in Des Moines, Iowa in 1989 and then moved on to Dodge City KS where he retired from the National Weather Service at the end of 2022. Hutton was the Warning Coordination Meteorologist during the last 28 out of the 33 years that he was with the NWS.
As a professional Meteorologist, Mr. Hutton has a vast amount of knowledge on global weather patterns and utilizes innovative strategies and technology applications to support long term weather forecasts and monthly and seasonal outlooks.
Expertise
Hutton gained valuable knowledge early in his weather career about the importance of ocean/atmosphere relationships (including sea surface temperatures and tropical convection) in driving global and regional weather and climate changes. Teleconnections that develop in the presence of global forcing can be identified and the resulting sensible weather can be tracked and timed.
In the late 1990s, Hutton began giving presentations on extended outlooks based on close observation of weather patterns that can be unique from one year to the next. His forecasts have proved to be skillful and continually beat the forecasts of global weather models.
